Walls of the Past

Long ago, many cities in the world had high walls. The walls kept the enemy out. Soldiers stood on top of them day and night. When they saw an army far away, they made a big fire, and everyone in the city knew.

Some of these walls are more than twenty centuries old. Today they are quiet and beautiful in the sun. People no longer need them for war, but many families walk there on Sundays and take pictures.
